What is the Gospel - Good News? We were made in the image of God to have fellowship with Him. But in Adam we all sinned and that brought spiritual death (man's separation from God), and started the process of physical death. Fortunately, God became a man, suffered (see below on Crucifixion) and died on the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus then rose from the dead. When we believe in Jesus and what He did for us, we will turn (repent) from living our own way, and experience the gift of being born again by the Spirit of God. This saves us from being a slave to sin and from going to Hell. This is a gift from God that we receive by faith. It is all of God's unmerited grace and not of man's works.
The Power of God
If someone has not changed from going their way to going God's way, then they have not been saved yet. Jesus came for the express purpose of saving us from our sins- going our own way (Mt.1:21). If we don't see the power of God working out our sanctification in real every day life now, then we have no reason to believe the power of God has ever secured our future justification into heaven. God's true work of salvation does not stop, as Phil. 1:6 tells us. Read 1 John which was written to let us know if we have eternal life.
